Alive with MissionMe!

What is Alive with MissionMe!®?

Alive with MissionMe!® (AMM), a nonprofit organization founded in 2004 specifically to combat childhood obesity, is greatly concerned about the near-epidemic increase in obesity in school-age children in the U.S. AMM offers a refreshing solution to the challenge of weight reduction and management and to the adoption of principles guiding life-time fitness.

What AMM Does

AMM targets total body fitness through comprehensive multisport curricula designed to meet the needs of today’s youth – and puts fun back into fitness. AMM’s curricula and activity cards are readily adaptable by teachers and coaches, teachers of special needs students, and by allied physical education professionals at elementary, middle, and high school levels. Curricula and activities are developed by leading experts in physical education and qualified coaches, ensuring they are specific to each school-age population and they can be adapted to participants at all levels of fitness, ability, and health.

Why AMM is Different

AMM focuses on the multisport activities of run, bike, and swim and on core development – with or without equipment. Curricula and activities may be used within or outside the school setting, making teaching materials extremely versatile. AMM programs encourage student self responsibility in goal setting, performance tracking, and measurement, meeting both cognitive and physical needs, and in understanding of how the body works, moves, and can perform safely. Our approach to effecting change in obese children is substantiated by a University of Kansas Medical Center study. The study found that AMM's curricula demonstrate positive results in combating obesity through multisport activity and in sustaining positive life-long lifestyle change. Now in its second stage, AMM was adopted by The Cooper Clinic for trial in Brazil as part of a study of youth-related obesity issues. AMM has been recognized by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAPHERD). Our approach is aligned with the national physical education standards developed by the National Association of Sports and Physical Education (NASPE)

Why AMM is Important to You

Resources and staff are more limited now than ever before, yet the issue of childhood obesity continues to grow exponentially. AMM's offerings are barrier-free – "No pool, No bikes, No problem!" AMM will help you make a difference in reducing obesity in our children and in setting them on a path of improved, longer-term fitness.
